Seth Warren a dear friend has been traveling all around North America on the Kavu Elements Tour with “Baby” a biodiesel fueled car which has completed the longest overland journey without petroleum than ANY other vehicle in the world. To sustain energy, Baby uses sun, wind, and water to recharge the power during prolonged stationary stays. After over a year on the road, Seth and crew are in downtown right now at the Jules Verne Nature Day to showcase Baby, have film screenings, and showcase artists from Japan’s Gravity Free to do live paintings!

To celebrate this historic victory, Pink Cloud Events is proud to announce its “Modern Day Romance” Wedding Contest! We are looking for gay couples in California to tell Pink Cloud why they embody the modern day romance. The winning couple will win $10,000 worth of wedding planning services provided by Pink Cloud and very special friends in the wedding industry.

The rules are simple:
1. Post a YouTube video (3 minutes MAX) as a video response to the one above, which tells you and your partner’s Modern Day Romance story.
2. Tweet your YouTube video link to @pinkcloud with #pinkcloud OR email your YouTube link to weddings@pinkcloudevents.com to enter.
3. All video entries MUST be submitted by the contest deadline 11:59PM on Wednesday, August 18th, 2010 for consideration.

Threw a party with Big City Forum to benefit Taking the Reins. We had a great dinner at the TtR barn and gardens in Los Feliz. Mia Lehrer and Alia Malley presented their work, and we had the incredible support of dublab, Large Marge Sustainables, Biergarten, and Ardenwoods Edibles to create a magical event.

Nysha of Ardenwoods Edibles, a culinary garden supplier in Pasadena, gave me this beautiful basket of tomatoes, basil, oregano, and Italian parsley — can’t WAIT to make some fresh pasta sauce this week!

Monday night, while most of Los Angeles was fast asleep, The Roxy in West Hollywood was filled with high school students on their summer breaks for “Spin The Bottle Mondays” hosted by none other than Mark “The Cobrasnake” Hunter. As Jake Simon’s #1 fans, we had an obligation to fulfill, and that was to cheer him on as much as possible for the DJ competition that he was in. He rocked it!

It was nice to be in an environment where Vitamin Water replaced Vodka Tonics, and kids were dropped off by their mothers instead of a taxi or a D.D. The venues strict 12 am curfew gave us plenty of time to recharge our batteries the next day.

LACMA Late Night Party

Founder of Freewaves, professor, zen master, respected curator, and media arts guru, Anne Bray has been a pioneer of the media arts movement in Los Angeles since the 1980s. We are delighted that experimental media arts non-profit, Freewaves will be celebrating its 20th birthday at LACMA for a late-night, one-time-only exhibition: Video on the Loose, Saturday, June 26th from 8-11PM.

Anne is known for her creative methods of applying progressive art theory to public consciousness– and Saturday night will be no exception. For one night, LACMA’s North piazza will become an outdoor gallery, with 20+ experimental media art works produced over the past two decades. The videos span perspectives from the identity politics of the 1990s to post-9/11 reality checks, from deep inside the mass media landscape to observations from media makers in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

There will be food, drinks, and a live DJ to round out the night, so hurry and secure your place this Saturday before tickets sell out!

Our karaoke-lovin’ friend Leonardo Bravo from Big City Forum is teaming up with Pink Cloud for a very special benefit for Taking the Reins on Sunday, July 11th. The event will take place in a barn near the LA River, where Taking the Reins teaches inner-city girls life skills through horse training - this is a very special place!! Mia Lehrer, one of the foremost landscape architects in California, and our neighbor Sherin Guirguis, a leading contemporary artist in LA, will be presenting their work and latest obsessions.

With presentations from both Lehrer and Guirguis, garden and stable tours led by the girls of Taking the Reins, a shared meal of unpretentious food and drinks, and Leo’s incredible network of inspiring people who are shaping LA, we can’t wait to see the results from this fundraiser for Taking the Reins.
